To the surprise of many, the New England Patriots decided to give another opportunity for Cam Newton heading to the 2021 season. Both sides agreed to a one-year, $5 million deal which will allow the 2015 NFL MVP to redeem himself after a dismal debut season in Foxborough.

Not long after, Newton spoke regarding his newly-inked extension and claimed that he is ready to prove all the haters wrong this time around.

Via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk:

“I refuse to let them, but I refuse to let them slip or sleep on me in 2021 — 2021′s savage,” Newton said.

His excitement for his looming comeback was evident as he released a hype video on his Instagram account afterward.

The Georgia native had tough luck when he inherited a depleted Patriots lineup prior to the 2020 NFL season. Some areas of the roster lacked significant depth while a handful of the team's key veterans opted out of playing due to COVID-19 concerns.

Due to the lack of weapons, Newton was left to his own devices and had to get creative in order to carry the team on his back. He eventually failed to do so, unable to garner any significant momentum all throughout the season. He eventually ended the 2020 season with total tallies of 2,657 passing yards on 242 completions to go with eight touchdowns in 15 appearances.

The entire team's production was evidently lacking as they settled for a 7-9 record to finish their campaign on the third spot of the AFC East. With a year of experience under his belt, Newton will seek to be more productive and thrive better in Bill Belichick's system this time around.

It remains to be seen whether or not Cam Newton will serve as the team's QB1 come Week 1. However, Patriots fans can expect him to play with a chip on his shoulder as he remains eager to prove his worth next season.
