Cam Newton seems to be adjusting relatively well to life with the New England Patriots. He hasn't exactly been in MVP form, but he hasn't been terrible for his new team as well. For his part, however, Newton seems to have a different perspective as to his current level of play for the Pats.

The star QB was recently asked to provide an assessment of his overall performance for New England thus far, and Newton did not hold back:

“I just haven’t been — I just haven’t been good,” Newton said via video conference Thursday, via Ryan Hannable of WEEI Sports Radio Network. “I haven’t matched enough good plays together for my liking and that is what it comes down to. When I mean good plays, I mean right reads, I mean ball positioning, I mean making guys miss, just the whole gamut of how I play. I know what I am capable of and my standard is extremely high and I haven’t been meeting it — my personal standard. That’s how I feel.”

It goes without saying that Newton is his own biggest critic, and there's no way he's letting himself off the hook with what he considers to be a substandard level of play.

When asked if he could pinpoint exactly what he needs to do to make the necessary improvements, the three-time Pro-Bowler admitted that he can only do so much at this point:

“The only thing I can do are the things that I can control,” Newton said. “That’s have a great week of practice and have it carry over to the game.”

Newton and the Patriots return to action on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, and for Newton, this presents itself as an opportunity for some redemption.
