The New England Patriots took a risk at Cam Newton, and the early returns indicate that it is a remarkable move for the team.

In Week 1 as the Patriots opened their season against the Miami Dolphins, Newton quickly put out a historic debut. The former league MVP went for a total of 75 rushing yards, which is the most for a Patriots QB since 1977 (per Mike Reiss of ESPN).

Cam Newton started the post-Tom Brady era for New England with a bang, as he led his new squad to a 21-11 win against the Dolphins. Although it's still a bit too early to tell, the three-time Pro Bowler looks to be more than ready to fill in the shoes of Brady and spearhead the attack for head coach Bill Belichik.

His debut for the Patriots was impressive, to say the least. The playmaker was 15-19 on his passing attempts and had 155 passing yards with no interceptions and a passer rating of 100.7. His 75 rushing yards included 15 carries and two rushing TDs to boot.

Of course, there's the W to complete the perfect start for Newton!

Newton even made his presence felt after the game when he was seen jawing at some of the Dolphins players, proving to everyone that the fire is still in him and that he's more than ready for his comeback season.

It has been just a little over two months since the 2015 MVP was signed by the Patriots after a bittersweet end to his time with the Carolina Panthers. Newton is on a one-year deal and from the looks of it, New England got themselves quite a bargain for the former Rookie of the Year who is on a $1 million base salary.
