The New England Patriots suffered another disappointing loss on Sunday, falling to the Buffalo Bills, 24-21. Pats superstar quarterback Cam Newton had a relatively nice outing against the Bills, but unfortunately for him, his late-game fumble might end up as the most memorable moment of his performance on Sunday.

Newton's late-game error cost New England the chance to tie the ballgame with a field goal, and the 31-year-old was brutally honest about his self-criticism after the loss:

“I am still jeopardizing this team's success because of my lackluster performance of protecting the football. Coach trusts me with the ball in his hand and I wouldn't want it any other way. I just have to do a better job protecting it,” he said, via Mike Reiss of ESPN.

“It's extremely frustrating, but this league is not what have you done for us, but what have you done lately? I understand this is a production-based league.”

Newton also admitted that it was an “unacceptable” error from his end. However, the former MVP has been in tough spots in the past, and he understands what he needs to do for the Patriots moving forward:

“Nobody is feeling sorry for me, and I'm not feeling sorry for myself. I just have to be better and play 60 minutes of premium football,” he said.

Newton's next shot at redemption will come in the form of a matchup against the New York Jets in Week 9.

The 0-8 Jets have been one of the worst teams in the league this term, and this should be a great opportunity for Newton to come out with a noteworthy bounce-back performance.
