The New England Patriots selected rookie Mac Jones out of the University of Alabama in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, signaling the future of the franchise after having Tom Brady at the helm for so long. However, Cam Newton was brought back to New England and is looking to bounce back after a tough 2020 season– his first with the Patriots.

According to Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald, Newton is using the messages from haters to hopefully have a bounce-back campaign in 2021 for the Patriots.

“Feed your focus. Feed it. If the hate ain’t in my focus, I don’t feed it. I feed off of it, but I don’t feed it. It’s two different things. When I sense or when I dwell on hatred, that’s the product that’s gonna come out: rage, anger. But that’s the hatred using me, not me using the hatred. So I want to process that and make that fuel me. I don’t dwell on what a person may say, what this person may say, she say, I just use it to my advantage and I feed what I want it to feed.”

Yeah, Newton clearly heard the messages during the past season, especially after Patriots fans had been used to seeing Brady toss passes for what seems like an eternity.

The Patriots missed the playoffs and Newton struggled big time. In his first year in New England, he finished the year with 2657 yards with eight touchdowns and 10 picks, and the selection of Mac Jones puts a serious question mark into his role as the starting quarterback.

The likelihood is Newton gets the Patriots job out of the gate, but with Jones lurking, his leash will be shorter than ever, and Bill Belichick might not hesitate to pull him if he underperforms once again.

Either way, Newton is aiming to have a huge season and is using the messages from the haters as fuel to his fire.
