Cam Newton's gratitude towards Bill Belichick and the Patriots is definitely warranted. After being cut by the Carolina Panthers in March, Newton's future in the NFL was uncertain, with initial looks at the quarterback landscape not leaving many options for the 10th-year signal-caller.

While some were speculating on the possibility of Newton heading to Foxboro, many were uncertain of the fit with Belichick. Regardless, the six-time Super Bowl winning head coach decided to take a chance on Newton and the results have been promising thus far.

Sure enough, Cam has not completely proven himself on the field yet; however, the early signs from training camp show that Newton is ready to go and prove that the Patriots made the right choice by taking a gamble on him.

Newton still has to prove that he is worthy of holding the reins of the Patriots' offense, and he remains in competition with Jarrett Stidham for the starting job. According to reports, it appears as though that competition is much closer than many thought going into training camp, with Stidham keeping pace with Newton in practice.

No matter how well Stidham plays, however, it would appear as though Newton is the starter in New England this season.

Cam is grateful for the opportunity he has been given in New England, and he will look to repay Belichick with a strong season and hopefully a playoff run in 2020.
