There is little question as to Cam Newton's love for Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots.

Newton spoke openly about his future during a recent appearance on the “I AM AN ATHLETE” podcast, saying he has no intention of retiring anytime soon. The former NFL MVP was also asked whether he would be open to playing a second season with the Patriots or not.

Newton left little doubt as to his feelings on that one:

“Yes,” the Patriots' starting QB last year said, via USA TODAY. “Hell yes.”

The 31-year-old clearly established a rapport with Belichick over the course of the year. Newton sang his praises during the interview:

“I think Bill Belichick is the most misunderstood person in all of sports,” Newton said, via USA TODAY. “He’s dope as s–t. He is a cool dude.”

Belichick often threw his support behind Newton amidst an up-and-down 2020 season, as did offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. Whether Newton will be back under center or not for the Pats in 2021 remains to be seen.

The Patriots might use its first-round draft choice to select a quarterback or even trade up for the opportunity to get a top signal-caller. Former Pats offensive coordinator Charlie Weis was among those to suggest the team should make a play for Alabama star Mac Jones.

But New England could also look to re-sign Newton and use both free agency and the draft to make improvements at the skill positions, perhaps using their first-round choice on a talented pass-catcher like Florida tight end Kyle Pitts.

Belichick and the Patriots have a lot to figure out this offseason. But Newton is very open to the idea of playing in Foxborough again next season.
