Who's the New England Patriots' starter in Week 1: Cam Newton or Mac Jones? That's the question fans want answered as we head towards the start of the season.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick has stayed cryptic in recent days, just as he always has, on the decision for QB1.

Via Miles Simmons of NBC Sports Pro Football Talk:

“I don’t have a timetable on that,” the Patriots coach said. “I can’t tell you.” When pressed with a follow-up, Belichick replied, “Yeah, I’m not sure exactly how that will go.”

While Cam Newton could very well have an edge as the veteran of the two, one voice claims he's hurting his chances in another way – listening to rap music in practice. That's according to 98.5 The Sports Hub radio host Scott Zolak.

Via The Sports Daily:

“I’d turn off the rap music first of all, because I think it’s distracting for Cam here,” Zolak said of Patriots practice blasting music. “Because in between every throw, he’s dancing. He makes a throw and the music’s still cranking.”

Cam Newton has always been a pretty animated figure on the football field. He's certainly not been bashful in having fun and vibing out during Patriots practice, and that's certainly rubbed a few people off the wrong way.

But at the end of the day, it's the on-field performance that matters. For all we know, Cam Newton wants the music as part of his process to zone in. We may never know if the rap music actually hurts the QB's play, but we definitely will find out who starts for the Patriots soon enough.
