It wasn't a long time ago when free-agent quarterback Cam Newton took his talents to Foxborough to join the New England Patriots. Despite the short amount of time, the 2015 NFL MVP has been consistent in working towards understanding coach Bill Belichick's system. After the first few weeks of training camp, Newton may be inching closer to securing the starting playmaker role.

Patriots quarterback coach Jedd Fisch shared his observations on Newton thus far:

“The best reflection of his work ethic — we’re not even at 4 weeks yet where he’s come into the building — is that he’s able to function and run the offense. That’s reflective of how hard he’s worked to get there,” Fisch said, via Mike Reiss of ESPN.com.

The former Auburn Tiger was also reported to be one of the first individuals to arrive in the team facility on each practice day. Newton's hard work and commitment to his job was contagious and energized his new Patriots teammates.

Meanwhile, sophomore quarterback Jarrett Stidham is currently dealing with a nagging hip injury which will leave him not completely healthy for the upcoming weeks. His condition forced him to have lesser reps, which in turn benefits Newton more. Returning quarterback Brian Hoyer's performance has yet to pose a real threat to any of his fellow gunslingers as well.

The three-time Pro Bowler will make a strong case to play under center next season if he continues the upward trajectory in his performances during practice. The next three weeks will see if Cam Newton will be able to lock in the starting quarterback role for the Patriots come Week 1.
