Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter isn't sold on the New England Patriots defense yet. Carter said on First Things First on FS1 that he thinks that the Patriots have a good or even great defense, but once everything is done this year, this won't be considered one of the best defenses ever.

Carter cited a couple of reasons for his belief, with the first being they really haven't been tested yet and the defense will take a step back in the next couple of weeks. Carter also doesn't think the defense has the star player that requires the double or triple-team up front that people will remember for being an unstoppable force for many years to come.

The Patriots' defense has been lights out so far this season, giving up only 7.6 points per game, which is first in the league. The defense also has been creating a ton of turnovers, already picking off 19 passes and recovering seven fumbles.

The big knock on the defense is they really haven't been tested this year, but that should change very quickly. The best offense that the team has faced so far has been the Pittsburgh Steelers or Cleveland Browns and neither of those have been all that impressive this year.

In the next four games, the Patriots face the Baltimore Ravens, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and Houston Texans. Maybe if the Patriots' defense can continue to be strong and force the turnovers during that stretch of games, Carter will change his tune on just how good the Patriots defense is.
