DeAngelo Hall was an elite cornerback in his heyday, and during his prime, he came close to signing with the NFL's most elite team.

During an appearance on Good Morning Football on Thursday, Hall stated that he almost signed with the New England Patriots back in 2008:

“It's crazy,” Hall said. “I had a chance to join New England at one point after the '08 season when I got cut from Oakland. Man, I'm not going to say I made a mistake, but … “I don't regret much in life and I regret [not signing with the Patriots],”

Hall, who had spent the first four years of his career with the Atlanta Falcons, was traded to the Oakland Raiders in March 2008. However, he played in just eight games with the Raiders that season before being cut.

He then had the opportunity to join the Patriots, but opted to sign with the Washington Redskins instead:

“It was a three year, $27 million contract,” Hall said of New England's offer to him at the time. “I wanted more years. People were doing three-year deals back then. Randy [Moss] had just signed a similar deal. Coach Belichick was like, ‘Look, I promised Randy I wouldn't pay anybody more than him. I've got three-for-27 for you.' The Redskins had three-for-30 … and I went for three million more instead of a Super Bowl ring.”

To be fair to Hall, it would be a while before New England would actually win another Super Bowl, as it did not win its fourth championship until the 2013-14 campaign, nine years after its most recent one.

Still, Hall definitely would have had more of a chance of success with the Pats than the Redskins.
