New England Patriots wide receiver Demaryius Thomas is just thankful to be alive after a car accident in February that could have taken his life.

In an interview with on Wednesday by TMZ Sports, Thomas said, “I could have been gone.”

The crash happened in Denver on February 16th and reportedly was caused because Thomas was going 70 MPH in a 30 MPH zone. Thomas hit the vehicle with his car and it flipped several times before coming to a stop. Thomas somehow walked away from the incident, even though the car was totaled.

“I wake up every morning and thank the lord above. … And, just thankful for just not even just being able to do what I do—being able to talk, walk, eat, all those things that we forget about on a daily basis.”

Thomas was released from the Broncos just four days before the crash and although he is still recovering from a torn Achilles he has caught on with the Patriots.

Each of the last two years Thomas has failed to reach 1,000 yards receiving but each season from 2012-2016 he was able to reach that milestone.

The Patriots have a lot of questions with the receivers and tight ends heading into the season so as long as Thomas is healthy, he has a chance to be a real difference maker for this off-season.

Hopefully, he has learned his lesson from the cash and will slow down driving, and uses this second chance in life for good on and off the field.
