The New England Patriots are uncertain about what Tom Brady intends to do next season but he isn't the only player on the team that is unsure about his impending free agency. While speaking about the offseason, McCourty made an interesting statement about his future.

“We’ll see how it goes,” McCourty said, via Phil Perry of NBCSportsBoston.com. “I think when you’re in the league for 10 years now you see how it’s a business. . . .

“Is it a cool headline if I say I want to be back? Yeah, but that doesn’t really matter.”

Similarly to Brady, McCourty's contract is also set to expire when the new league year begins in March. Even though McCourty has spent 10 seasons with the Patriots, he appears to be prepared to evaluate all of his options before deciding on where he'll play.

“I still gotta see who’s interested,” he said. “But it’s exciting for me. My kids are 2 and 1. They can go anywhere. We’re just excited to be in this position, to have played my 10th year, had a good year, still have an opportunity to play and further my career.”

At 32-years-old, the Patriots safety compiled one of the best seasons of his career in 2019. The veteran contributed 58 tackles, seven deflections, five interceptions, and two forced fumbles.

Even at his age, McCourty could command a decent contract on the open market. Besides McCourty, Kyle Van Noy, Danny Shelton, and Jamie Collins are all set to hit free agency in 2020. While McCourty would love to return to the Patriots in 2020, it remains to be seen if New England can shell out enough money to retain him.
