The New England Patriots are entering a new era in 2020, as Tom Brady will not be the starting quarterback for the first time in nearly two decades.

But safety Devin McCourty doesn't seem too worried.

While the Patriots don't have a proven commodity at quarterback right now, McCourty is confident in youngster Jarrett Stidham and veteran Brian Hoyer:

“I’m excited for that quarterback room. I think they’re itching,” McCourty said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “You get an opportunity to go out there and compete. That’s what we all want. I think for us as players at other positions we need to focus on what we have to do and not fall into the trap of the media, like everybody worrying about the quarterback room. We just control what we can control, and the rest will take care of itself.”

McCourty also praised the work ethic of both Stidham and Hoyer. Obviously, McCourty is going to say these types of things publicly. He isn't going to trash the Patriots' quarterbacks or express any concerns about the position through the media.

But you have to wonder how New England's locker room actually feels about going into a season with so much uncertainty at signal-caller, especially considering how stable the position had been for so long.

Stidham threw just four passes during his rookie campaign this past year, with one of them going for an interception. Meanwhile, Hoyer is clearly a backup.

That being said, Bill Belichick must feel good about Stidham given the fact that he did not even really attempt to address the position after Brady's departure earlier this offseason.
