The New England Patriots are breaking in a new crop of wide receivers this year. Danny Amendola is now suiting up for the division rival Miami Dolphins, and Brandin Cooks was traded to the Los Angeles Rams leaving the suspended Julian Edelman to lead the pack with All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski.

Along with seeing some of Tom Brady's favorite targets leave New England this NFL offseason, the Patriots are already dealing with numerous injuries to players added to the receiving corps. With injuries currently an issue, New England is exploring options with the team bringing in veteran wideout Eric Decker for a workout, according to ESPN ‘s Field Yates.

Despite meeting with numerous teams in free agency and flirting with a return to the Denver Broncos, Decker remains unsigned late in the free agency process. At one point, Decker was considered one of the better players in the NFL at his position after making a name for himself in Denver as one of Peyton Manning's go-to guys.

The Patriots could be an ideal situation for Decker, and he's said as much. New England has been able to resurrect careers of veteran wide receivers in the past and might be able to do the same for the journeyman.

Decker's last solid season was with the New York Jets in 2015. He caught 80 passes for 1,027 yards and 12 touchdowns that year before playing only three games in 2016.

Last season with the Tennessee Titans, Decker recorded 54 receptions for 563 yards and only one touchdown. The 31-year-old wideout played in all 16 regular-season games last season but started in half of those games.
