The New England Patriots are reportedly looking to go big-game hunting this offseason with rumors suggesting that they are looking to bring in either Los Angeles Chargers tight end Hunter Henry or Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green. However, it seems former NFL coach Eric Mangini is not completely sold on the idea.

Mangini had coached alongside Bill Belichick for six seasons in New England. He said during an appearance on “First Things First” that the rumors have been blown out of proportion.

“Who puts out these reports? Like seriously, who puts out these reports? Who’s talking to New England? Has Bill suddenly opened up the line of communication? ‘Hey, we’re looking at Hunter Henry and A.J. Green, but don’t tell anybody.’ I mean, come on,” Mangini said. “Nick Caserio, is he talking? Who is giving information out of New England?”

Mangini went on to add how obvious it is that the Patriots would be targeting established players this offseason.

“I’m just saying. Could they be on New England’s list? Yeah, they’re both potential guys that could be on it. You want to take any other name in the NFL who’s a free agent, who’s an offensive player, who’s had a little bit of success and put them on that list, yeah, go ahead. I’ll put that report out there: Any offensive player who’s a free agent, who’s a little productive may be on New England’s list.”

The prospect of New England doing their due diligence on players of Green and Henry's caliber is hardly far-fetched. They have never been shy about making a splash to boost their chances at a Super Bowl and this offseason should prove no different.

Of course, it still remains to be seen how the situation with quarterback Tom Brady plays out. Although rumors are suggesting that the Patriots are hoping to revamp the roster around Brady in the 2020 NFL season, that is obviously going to be much easier said than done.

There has not been any indication that the Chargers or the Bengals are ready to part ways with Henry and Green. Meanwhile, the Patriots have a laundry list of voids to fill on offense before the 2020 campaign rolls around.
