New England Patriots fans got their first glimpse at what Cam Newton looks like in the team threads on Tuesday.

The 2015 MVP will look to revitalize his career in New England after consecutive seasons riddled with questions regarding his durability.

Cam and the Carolina Panthers started the 2018 season on a roll, winning six of their first eight games and storming towards the top of the NFC South. But Carolina lost seven of its next eight, with Cam losing six straight before missing the final two games.

Newton hoped to reinvigorate the franchise after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery, but he sustained a Lisfranc injury early in the year. The injury would require surgery, forcing Cam to miss all but two games.

The Panthers subsequently released Newton after failing to find a trade partner, and he spent the majority of the offseason working out and attempting to convince potential suitors he was healthy and hungry.

New England eventually made its play for Cam, signing Newton to a one-year deal in June. Newton is projected to be the starting quarterback, though he will still have to win the job in training camp.

This is an important season not just for Newton, but also for the Patriots franchise: it will mark the first time in 20 years the Pats will begin the season without Tom Brady on the roster.

In that way, Newton might be the perfect signal-caller for New England. The motivated quarterback will attempt to help the Pats maintain control of the AFC East.
