There has been plenty of speculation regarding how quarterback Cam Newton would fit into the New England Patriots' culture heading into the 2020 NFL season. Fortunately, he has seemingly managed to make quite a first impression on his new teammates to begin training camp.

According to Darren Hartwell of NBC Sports, guard Joe Thuney likes what he sees from Newton so far:

“Yeah, he's been great. A lot of great energy,” Thuney said Wednesday in a video conference with reporters. “Just works hard so far. It's been great to meet him and everything, and looking forward to seeing what happens.”

The fact that teammates have already started to warm up to Newton is certainly an encouraging sign. After all, one of the biggest concerns surrounding New England is focused on whether or not he can embrace the “Patriot Way” that has been established by head coach Bill Belichick. However, Thuney's comments indicate that he is off to a good start.

This may come in contrast to what Newton's former teammate Kyle Love said regarding his fit in New England's system. Love indicated that the former NFL MVP will have a difficult time adjusting to the constant criticism that players receive. Of course, only time will tell if this will be the case heading into the 2020 campaign.

There is still plenty of work to be done if Cam Newton hopes to establish himself as the clear-cut starter and move forward with his looming comeback. However, he appears to be taking all the right steps to ensure that it comes to fruition.
