Former New England Patriots wide receiver Philip Kenwood “P.K.” Sam II was arrested on domestic violence charges on Feb. 4 in Ohio.

Sam, who was part of the Patriots’ 2004 Super Bowl-winning team but is now a football coach at Centerville High School, allegedly broke into his own home after returning from a night in downtown Dayton clubs.

Per Richard Wilson of the Dayton Daily News, police responded to the burglary call at his home, which was reported by a woman identified as Sam’s wife. She said someone was trying to break into her house and car. Upon arrival, police found glass in the front door and a car window broken.

Sam told police the couple was going through a divorce, and that the whole incident began when his wife pushed a woman he was talking to at a bar. She was kicked out of the bar, and upon returning home locked Sam out of the house. Sam said that’s why broke the window to the car.

Police reported Sam’s wife had scratch marks on her neck and arm, and blood on her ear. However, Sam denied there was a physical altercation with his wife, and that her injuries came from the aforementioned fight with the woman at the bar.

Sam was drafted in the fifth round by New England out of Florida State in 2004 and spent two years with the Patriots. He also spent time with the Bengals Dolphins, Raiders, and Bills during a six-year NFL career and also spent four seasons in the CFL.
