Throughout his illustrious NFL career, New England Patriots superstar quarterback Tom Brady has established himself as one of the most well-known professional athletes in the world. He has earned the reputation as being arguably the best quarterback of all time as perhaps the most successful NFL player in league history.

According to Peter Gammons of the Athletic, Seattle Mariners legendary outfielder Ichiro Suzuki voiced before the 2017 season that he had no idea who Brady was when his former teammate Alex Rodriguez asked to get in contact with him to get more information on his stretching.

One morning in spring training, 2017, he was in the coaches’ room looking at his cell phone text messages. Ichiro told the coaches about one message he had just received from a number he didn’t recognize. The guy said he’d gotten Ichiro’s number from Alex Rodriguez, and that he wanted to come meet him and study his stretching system.

“What’s the guy’s name?” asked one of the coaches.

Ichiro strolled to the end of the text. “Some guy named Tom Brady. Who the f— is Tom Brady?”

In his baseball-genius world, Ichiro Suzuki wouldn’t know Tom Brady from Al Rando.

It is quite surprising to learn that Suzuki did not know who Brady was, but he had zero interest in the NFL at any point during his tenure in the MLB. There is clearly the chance that he has heard his name before, but the fact that he did not know who the five-time Super Bowl champion is should speak to how consumed in the baseball world that Suzuki was.

There is likely a clear understanding now from the future Hall of Famer about who Brady is now given that he has been put into direct contact with him. What should be taken away from this is that the Patriots quarterback was looking in other realms to find additional ways to prepare for the physical grind of an NFL season at his age.

If anything, this is a comical situation that one of the biggest stars of his own sport playing in the United States had no knowledge of who arguably one of the most prominent star athletes in the country.
