New England Patriots first-round pick Isaiah Wynn has suffered a torn Achilles and will miss the rest of the season, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The rookie offensive tackle suffered what was initially called an ankle injury against the Philadelphia Eagles and had to be carted off the field.

Wynn, the No. 23 overall pick in this year’s draft, was the first offensive lineman the Patriots picked in the first round since they took Nate Solder in 2011. He was in the mix to replace Solder, who left for the New York Giants this offseason, at left tackle.

Wynn started at right tackle against the Eagles and had also been working as the team’s backup left tackle behind Trent Brown.

Wynn’s injury will deal a significant blow to the Patriots’ depth at tackle. Brown and Marcus Cannon are expected to be the starters, while LaAdrian Waddle will likely be their primary backup. Matt Tobin, Cole Croston, and Ulrick John round out the depth chart.

Both of the Patriots’ first-round picks this year have now been bitten by the injury bug. Running back Sony Michel, Wynn’s college teammate at Georgia, has missed the past couple of weeks after undergoing a procedure on his knee but is expected to be back for the regular season.
