The New England Patriots enjoyed a big game from rookie wide receiver Jakobi Meyers in Week 1 of the preseason.

Despite going undrafted this past spring, Meyers has the unusual opportunity to carve out a solid role with the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots. He definitely got off to a perfect start.

In his first game, Meyers hauled in six receptions for 69 yards and two touchdowns. That's a massive game, doesn't matter if it's preseason or not.

According to an article by Isaiah Houde of PatriotsWire, Meyers is striving for greatness and wants the Patriots to be able to trust him.

“I want to be great,” Meyers said, “and I want to be in a position where they can depend on me, trust in me on tough downs.”

If this is the hope of Jakobi Meyers, he's already making a strong case. Obviously, the Patriots are a winning franchise. They've been Super Bowl contenders every year since Tom Brady's been the quarterback.

Due to that, there's a very high standard for talent on the roster. Head coach Bill Belichick does a phenomenal job of getting guys who are right for the system, then getting the most out of them.

Therefore, if Belichick believes in Meyers and gives him a chance, great things could be on the horizon. It wouldn't be the first time Belichick found a gem late in a draft (or in this case undrafted), and it certainly wouldn't be the last time.

The New England Patriots are known for creating stars out of nowhere. Jakobi Meyers is an undrafted wide receiver who is striving for greatness and showed out in his first opportunity. It seems like a match made in heaven.
