There have been a number of notable splashes made in the offseason thus far. The New England Patriots made an intriguing move of their own by pairing Devin McCourty with his identical twin brother Jason McCourty in the secondary following a trade with the Cleveland Browns.

Needless to say, the two are excited at the prospect of being able to play alongside each other once again. According to Mark Daniels of the Providence Journal, it takes them back to the old days when they used to play growing up:

“For me, I’m excited just about the opportunity just to be able to now share the field with Dev and to be able to do something we grew up loving,” Jason said. “With this opportunity, you think back to being 10-years-old waking up early to head to a Pop Warner game. Now, at this point, I’m just excited about being able to go through offseason workouts with him along my side and be able to catch up and see how much we’ve grown since the last time.”

As interesting as the move is, the story behind how it came to be was even more remarkable. The Browns had been gauging interest on McCourty which led his brother to have a discussion with head coach Bill Belichick and linebackers coach Brian Flores. Once the Patriots decided to go through with the deal, they allowed their star safety to inform his brother they had acquired him in exchange for a 2018 sixth-round pick.

It will be the first time the Brothers McCourty will share the same secondary since their college days at Rutgers. The veteran should be able to make an immediate impact opposite of cornerback Stephon Gilmore and his brother at safety.
