Super Bowl 53 had a great story that was simply not covered enough. New England Patriots defensive backs Jason and Devin McCourty would be playing together in a Super Bowl for the first time in their careers.

Devin may retire in the near future and Jason has never been with a successful team. Everything seemed to go right this past Sunday and now they get to share this memory together.

Jason told reporters:

“I don't even know if I had a vision for it, man. Last year, I spent the season in Cleveland. Didn't win a football game. God is good. I couldn't imagine I'd be sitting here after the 2018, 2019 season. Dev texted Bill [Belichick] in March and said ‘Two McCourtys are better than one.' Tonight, I think Bill agrees. So I'm happy with it.. 0-16 last year, Super Bowl champion this year, I couldn't have thought this up, man. … I remember when I first came here to this team in April, there was a whole media spectacle that it wouldn't be any fun here. It's my third organization in my 10th season. I haven't had more fun than this season.”

Jason had spent the first near-decade of his career not even clinching a playoff berth. He then joined the Cleveland Browns in 2017 and played on the second worst team in NFL history. They went 0-16, one of the most embarrassing years from a franchise in recent memory.

It was a long time coming for Jason, who spent the first nine years of his career not even sniffing a postseason berth, and an even longer way back from where his 2017 ended.

Jason's brother Devin had encouraged his head coach to bring in his brother. They did exactly that, swapping a sixth round and seventh round pick for his services. This allowed the two brothers to play together.
