New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman doesn't think Rob Gronkowski will be coming out of retirement to join the team this upcoming season. Edelman appeared on WFAN's Boomer and Gio on Tuesday to promote his upcoming documentary “100%” and was asked about his former teammate.

Edelman said that he doesn't think Gronkowski will be coming out of retirement but wouldn't completely rule out the idea.

“I don't know. I don't think so, but who knows?” Edelman said. via 247 Sports. “My guy, he's full of surprises, but if he does (return), that'd be awesome. If he doesn't, I understand. He's played an unbelievable career, and I'm excited for him and his next chapter of life, whatever it is.”

Almost immediately after retiring there were already rumors coming out that Gronk wasn't 100 committed to retiring and there was a chance that he could come back. Bleacher Report's Mike Freeman stirred the pot some more earlier this offseason reporting that the players inside the Patriots locker room thought he would return at some point during the 2019 season.

“What I can tell you is few people, including sources on the Patriots, believe that,” Freeman writes in regard to Gronk repeatedly saying he will not make a comeback. “The belief is that once the season gets going, and Gronkowski starts missing football, he will rejoin the team. It's not just a hunch, sources say; you can count on it.”

Edelman's comments don't really provide much clarity because he still left the door open for a return, but his thoughts are he won't return.
