The New England Patriots have three capable quarterbacks on the roster: Cam Newton, Jarrett Stidham, and Brian Hoyer—but wide receiver Edelman took to Instagram Monday to offer a reminder of his passing skills, too.

Edelman used the caption QB & WR communication at an all time high during quarantine training sessions”  with a photo-shopped image of him as a quarterback throwing the ball to himself as a receiver.

The Patriots' veteran wideout has a perfect passing rating (158.3) in his NFL career. In the regular season and postseason, he's completed five of his six passing attempts, for two touchdowns and 141 yards.

Edelman played quarterback (and wide receiver and punt returner) in college. At his one season at the College of San Mateo, a community college. During that season as a dual-threat QB, Edelman threw for 1,312 yards and 14 touchdowns while rushing for a school-record 1,253 yards and 17 scores. He then went on to start under center at Kent State for three seasons.

As a senior, he was the Golden Flashes' leading passer, as he completed 56% of his 275 throws for 1,820 yards, including 13 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. Not surprisingly, the Patriots star and future seventh-round pick was also his team's leading rusher, racking up 1,370 yards on 215 attempts (6.4 yards per carry) and scoring 13 touchdowns.

Newton will likely be the starter for the Patriots if he proves to be fully healthy—with Stidham as the next choice—but Edelman could always see a few opportunities to show off his skills, especially as head coach Bill Belichick and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels look for creative new ways to revamp the playbook after Tom Brady's departure to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
