There's plenty of hype surrounding New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones after he beat out Cam Newton for the starting quarterback job. After Newton's uneven 2020 season replacing Tom Brady, Jones is now trying to be the Patriots' next long-term star at quarterback.

While Jones is almost certainly not going to live up to Brady's impossibly lofty standards, he did beat out the legendary quarterback in one category over the last month. That would be in jersey sales:

Mac Jones winning the starting quarterback job surely led to a big run on jersey purchases, putting him ahead of proven stars like Brady and Patrick Mahomes. Josh Allen getting that No. 1 spot is mighty impressive as he gets set for a push for MVP and a Super Bowl. Then there's Chicago Bears rookie Justin Fields, who isn't starting yet but has plenty of hype in his own right.

The expectations are high for Jones as he starts his rookie campaign. He looked awesome in preseason, helping him win the job over Newton. Again, it's unfair to put Brady expectations on the young quarterback, but fans are clearly excited about Jones as the next quarterback of the future.

Jones and the Patriots will begin their 2021 season against Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins. Jones and Tua were teammates at Alabama before becoming first-round picks.
