The New England Patriots saw their regular season begin against the Miami Dolphins as Mac Jones and Tua Tagovailoa battled against each other in a college reunion of sorts. But, the Dolphins got the best of the Patriots on Sunday with a 17-16 victory.

Mac Jones' performance went well from a statistical standpoint despite the loss. Either way, the Patriots rookie gunslinger got honest about the game when he appeared on Merloni and Fauria.

“Looking back on it, definitely a lot of things to clean up…But, nothing to hang our head [over] at this point…It’s one game. It sucks to lose. Nobody wants to lose. We’re going to do everything we can to not have that happen. Opening Day, rookie year, check box by that, and we’re going to keep working.”

The Patriots selected Jones in the first round and released Cam Newton prior to the season, essentially pegging him as the face of the New England franchise going forward.

Jones finished 29-39 for 281 yards and a touchdown, and after his first score, he refused to keep the ball insisting there's more coming. What a mindset from Jones, and doesn't he seem to be the perfect guy to play with Bill Belichick and the Patriots?

The Patriots will watch the film and get back to work, and a Damien Harris fumble gave the Dolphins the ball back late. Next up for New England is the New York Jets in a battle between two first-round quarterbacks.
