New England Patriots rookie Mac Jones had quite the memorable showing in their final preseason game against the New York Giants. However, while he did throw his first career touchdown in the contest, it was not the main highlight for him. Instead, it was his hilarious moment with Cam Newton that went viral online.

After he threw his first TD–a 25-yard bullet to Isaiah Zuber–Jones went to the sidelines feeling hyped. Nonetheless, he was too caught up with the moment that he didn't notice Newton waiting for him to give the rookie a high-five. Instead of letting it go, though, the veteran signal-caller chased after Jones to get what he wanted.

For those who missed it, here's Jones' pass that gave the Patriots the lead early in the third frame.

Sure enough, in his postgame media availability, Mac Jones was asked about the hilarious moment and couldn't help but laugh it off. He then showed his appreciation for Cam Newton, who simply remains a good teammate despite the ongoing battle for the Patriots' QB1 position.

“I didn't hear him or see him and then I was like, Oh, my bad,” Jones explained, per NFL.com. “But that's Cam for you: He's happy and he's a great teammate. So I'm happy to be in the same room as him and just learn from him because he's a great dude.”

Newton is truly a real one with the genuine gesture for his 22-year-old teammate. While it would be normal for him to stay neutral given the tight competition for the starting role, he showed why he is a respected veteran in the league.

All signs point to Newton still winning the QB1 role, but until Bill Belichick makes his official decision, there will always be a battle between Cam and Mac. Nonetheless, it doesn't look like it will affect their relationship that much.
