New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones is heading to the 2022 season not only with more experience, but also with a slimmer body and in better shape.

During the Patriots' OTAs on Monday, Jones showed up noticeably slimmer and in greater condition. As receiver Kendrick Bourne said (via New York Times), the young QB is in the “best shape of his life” and his “stomach is gone.”

Now speaking to reporters himself, Jones shared how he used the offseason to focus on his diet and overall health. He highlighted how he made sure to find the right balance between getting slimmer and getting the body he needs to take hits in the coming season.

“I’ve learned more this offseason than I probably ever have about nutrition, sleep, wellness, all that stuff,” Jones explained, via NESN. “So I’m taking what I learned that I feel will help me and apply it, and then obviously listening to Ted and everybody, just following their plan, eating healthy, taking out a lot of the things that are bad for my diet.

“But at the same time, I need to maintain my weight and be able to take hits, so there’s a fine balance for every player. … For me, I’ve definitely trimmed down on the body fat a little bit, and then I’ll get a chance to bulk back up before the season starts and be able to absorb the hits.”

This is exactly what Patriots fans want to see from their QB. While he already had a phenomenal rookie season, there is certainly a lot of room to improve.

Mac Jones getting into better shape and conditioning is a huge step in improving the Patriots' offense, and sure enough, head coach Bill Belichick couldn't be happier with that. Furthermore, it's also a big message to the rest of his teammates as if he's saying that he is more than ready to get into war come 2022.
