The New England Patriots are hoping that they have found a replacement with a long term answer at quarterback for Tom Brady after his departure over a year ago. Cam Newton had his moments in 2020, but nothing spectacular stood out although the talent around him was less than ideal. The Patriots used their first round pick in 2021 to select Mac Jones, the quarterback from Alabama. It appears as though Jones is trying to put sprinkle in some of Brady's game into his own.

In an article from Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald, Callahan notes how much of Brady's game Jones has studied and tried to implement into his own style throughout the years.

“In college, Jones modeled his footwork after Brady’s. He stole elements of Brady’s game preparation. He studied every piece of Brady’s passing mechanics, down to how he contorts his off-hand.”

Nobody is suggesting Mac Jones will be the next Tom Brady, the idea to put that weight on any quarterback's shoulders is ludicrous. But, it doesn't hurt watching film of the greatest to ever do it and in turn, try to mold you game after it.

One former Patriots scout believes there are some similarities between the two.

“It’s unfair to Mac comparing the two, but there are definitely similarities on and off the field,” said Senior Bowl director and former Patriots scout Jim Nagy. “Having been around both guys, they’re wired very much the same. Calling Mac smart does not do him justice. He’s on a totally different level mentally.”

Mac Jones may not be catapulted into action right away in 2021, but whenever he does get the chance, the Patriots are hoping they have secured the correct answer as to who will lead the franchise for the next decade or so after Brady bolted to Tampa Bay.
