New England Patriots wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell missed all of last season due to a right knee injury that he had suffered in the preseason. It was an ailment that has continued to persist that in this offseason that has prevented to participate in nearly all of the team's workouts.

However, Mitchell has voiced that he is making progress from the injury with eyes toward possibly making a return to the practice field in training camp next month, according to Stephen Hewitt of the Boston Herald.

As for his knee, Mitchell said, “I’m good,” and if he will be ready for training camp, he answered, “We’ll see.”

Mitchell is set to enter his third year in the league where he may have the opportunity to grab a more defined role in the passing game. In his rookie campaign, he had shown flashes of potential hauling in 32 catches on 48 targets for 401 receiving yards, and four touchdowns. Mitchell had quickly developed a strong bond on the field with quarterback Tom Brady that helped him put up respectable numbers in a limited role.

It has simply been the injury bug that has prevented his career from truly taking off as he has proven to have the talent to be a high impact player when on the field. If he's able to get past his knee injury this offseason, he could help fill the void left by Julian Edelman being out of the lineup for the first month of the season due to a four-game suspension due to violating the league's PED policy.

There is still plenty of time for him to get his body right ahead of the start of training camp next month, which will be another important marker for his availability for the 2018 campaign. In the meantime, it sounds like he's making progress in his recovery from the injury.
