Patriots news: Matthew Slater responds to Jalen Ramsey's guarantee

New England Patriots special-teams star Matthew Slater understood why Jacksonville Jaguars star Jalen Ramsey is so confident as he proceeded to heap praise on the young cornerback.

All week the Jacksonville Jaguars had to tune out any talk of them getting steamrolled by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Divisional Round. So when they managed to seal a 45-42 victory, cornerback Jalen Ramsey was sure to remind all the doubters just how real the Jaguars are.

Even in the face of a trip to Foxborough to play the New England Patriots, Ramsey guaranteed a berth in Super Bowl LII. Despite his bold comments, Patriots wide receiver and special teams star Matthew Slater had nothing but praise for the Jaguars' rambunctious star, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.

“Man, that guy is really good. He should be confident because he’s very, very good,” Slater said. “When the good Lord made that guy, he said, ‘Let there be corner.’ And there he is. I’d be confident if I were him as well.”

While Ramsey is known for his exuberant personality, it was a bit of a surprise to see him so confident despite having to square off against the defending Super Bowl champs in the AFC Championship Game. Then again, that has largely been his mantra all year after establishing himself as one of the best corners in the league.

Unlike the Steelers, however, Ramsey's comments did not indicate he was looking ahead to the Jaguars' next opponent. Instead, he was just expressing the confidence he has in Jacksonville's chances this weekend.

Needless to say, their showdown pits arguably the league's best offense against its most formidable defense. Ramsey will undoubtedly look forward to doing his part in slowing down the Patriots' versatile passing attack.
