Mike Vrabel has his fun. During an interview with NBC Sports Boston’s Camera Guys, the Tennessee Titans head coach recalled on a time when he decided to playfully stick a point to his longtime mentor, transcription via Giants Wire.

“Every other day, it’s not an exaggeration that [Belichick] would reference the New York Giants. And he’d be like, ‘[Carl] Banks used to do this, Pepper used to do this, and L.T.’ Like, ‘You guys stink. These guys were 3-4 linebackers.’ And he would show us film.”

Belichick spent 12 seasons with Big Blue, joining the team in 1979 as a special teams coach and defensive assistant. He would then be assigned as linebackers coach in 1980 and eventually, as defensive coordinator in 1985. Belichick’s vital contributions to the club led to two Super Bowl victories during the 1986 and 1990 seasons.

Vrabel eventually grew tired of Belichick’s incessant ramblings about his beloved Giants and decided to pull off a crazy stunt.

“So finally I was like, ‘OK, we’ve got to do something.’ And I found this old helmet in the equipment room, and I was like, ‘You know what? I think now’s the time to roll with it, come out there and be like, ‘Here we go, Bill. We’ve got the Giants linebackers going.”

Vrabel’s antics apparently drew laughter from the entire Patriots locker room, even catching the attention of the usually stone-faced Belichick.

Kidding aside, the partnership between Vrabel and Belichick has likewise produced tremendous success. The duo won three Super Bowls with the New England Patriots in 2001, 2003, and 2004 seasons.
