Mike Zimmer says Bill Belichick is ‘the best coach ever’

A five-time Super Bowl winner and three-time Coach of the Year winner, Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots is truly one of the greatest coaches in NFL history. But is he the greatest ever? The head coach of their opponent this Sunday, Mike Zimmer, thinks so.

The Minnesota Vikings leader on the sidelines recently told reporters that he believes Belichick is the best coach in the history of the game, via Mike Florio of NBCSports.

“Yeah, you know, he’s the best coach ever,” Zimmer told reporters regarding Belichick. “I think it’s a compliment that he thinks that of me. Hopefully, he’s not just saying it because we play them this week.”

The Patriots would be one of the Vikings’ toughest tests this season, and beating them could strengthen their confidence as the season approaches the playoffs. Tom Brady’s consistent play under Belichick’s tutelage has provided trouble for their past opponents. The 41-year-old quarterback has not shown signs of slowing down despite playing in his 19th year in the league.

This season, the Patriots had a rough start. They went 1-2 in their first three games. But they bounced back with a string of victories in their past eight outings to improve to 8-3.

The Vikings are 6-4-1 and are aiming to protect their fifth position in the tight NFC playoff race. They need to finish the season strongly if they want to advance in the next round for the second consecutive year. Zimmer has been doing a good job so far. Ever since taking over in 2014, the Vikings coach has a 45-29-1 record with the team.

He also led the Vikings to the playoffs twice in 2015 and 2017. But they came up short on both appearances. They were a win away last season in becoming the first team to play a Super Bowl on their own turf.
