The New England Patriots are acquiring veteran center Russell Bodine from the Buffalo Bills for a sixth-round pick, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The Patriots were in need of another center with long-time starter David Andrews likely headed to injured reserve due to blood clots. Bodine will help add depth in the position.

Bodine, 26, spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals, playing and starting in all 64 games.

He signed a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills in free agency last offseason. He played in just 10 games before going on injured reserve due to a broken fibula.

But the Bills then signed Mitch Morse to a massive four-year, $44.5 million contract this offseason, making him the highest-paid center in the league. That made Bodine surplus to requirements in Buffalo.

The Patriots have been busy making moves ahead of the new season. They just traded former second-round pick, cornerback Duke Dawson, to the Denver Broncos.

They also acquired two other offensive linemen this week in Korey Cunningham from the Arizona Cardinals and Jermaine Eluemunor from the Baltimore Ravens.

It will be a tough task to replace Andrews, who has been a staple of the Patriots’ offensive line since his arrival in 2015. He had played in 60 out of a possible 64 games, making 57 starts. But Bodine will at least give the Patriots another capable option at the position along with Ted Karras.

Bodine suffered an oblique injury earlier in the month, but he returned to play in preseason last week and should be ready for Week 1.
