The New England Patriots, believe it or not, are proud of winning a sixth Super Bowl ring in February – and they won't be letting anyone forget it. The Patriots updated their team plane recently to include multiple references to their 13-3 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII, according to celebrity gossip site TMZ.
New England's re-designed aerial transport now features a massive “6X CHAMPIONS” graphic on both sides, with numerals of each Super Bowl victory below it. Even more striking are the six Lombardi Trophies on either side of the plane's wing.
The Patriots, as always, have remained in the NFL spotlight following their championship triumph in Atlanta, but mostly for reasons that won't be helping them on the field in 2019.
Future Hall of Fame tight end Rob Gronkowski, after flirting with retirement after the 2017 season, finally called it quits on his playing career in late March. Though hardly at his best last season, Gronkowski still came up big when it mattered most, with 13 catches for 191 yards in the postseason, including multiple key third-down conversions late in close games.
In February, owner Robert Kraft was implicated in a sex work scandal in Jupiter, FL. The 77-year-old was charged with two counts of soliciting another to commit prostitution, and has pleaded not guilty despite, along with tens of other defendants, being offered a plea deal that would have resulted in community service. Security cameras caught Kraft entering the Orchids of Asia Day Spa and engaging in illicit sexual activity with workers on the day of New England's win over the Kansas City Chiefs in AFC Championship Game, later attended by Kraft at Arrowhead Stadium.
A more hopeful notable offseason development for the Patriots was the selection of N'Keal Harry with the 32nd overall pick of the NFL Draft. The Arizona State product is the first wide receiver selected by New England in the first round since the 1990s.
