The New England Patriots lost left tackle Nate Solder to the New York Giants earlier this offseason. But now, the Patriots could have a chance to return the favor as they are set to host Giants running back Orleans Darkwa on a free-agent visit, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The Patriots are taking a look at one of the sleepers of the free agent class: Giants RB Orleans Darkwa is visiting New England today, source said. Would be an intriguing addition, especially after Dion Lewis left in free agency.

Darkwa, 26, has spent the last three full seasons with the Giants after going undrafted in 2014. He finally got the chance to be the team’s lead back last season, and he made the most of it as he put together a career year. He led the team in rushing attempts (171), rushing yards (751), yards per attempt (4.4) and rushing touchdowns (5) in 15 games. He also added 19 catches for 116 receiving yards.

Darkwa ended the season on a high as he rushed for a career-high 154 yards with a touchdown against the Washington Redskins. However, the Giants signed veteran running back Jonathan Stewart this offseason, which could make Darkwa expendable.

The Patriots lost versatile running back Dion Lewis to the Tennessee Titans in free agency, which opens up a spot in their running back rotation for a player like Darkwa. He would provide another dimension to a New England backfield that already includes the likes of Rex Burkhead, Mike Gillislee, and James White, who were all with the team last season.
