Josh McDaniels nearly left the New England Patriots last offseason when he originally accepted an offer to become the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. However, when everything was said and done, McDaniels decided to back out of the deal that was agreed to in order to remain the offensive coordinator for the Patriots.

According to a report from Pro Football Talk, the Patriots are expecting McDaniels to leave this offseason amid rumors of him coaching the Green Bay Packers or Cleveland Browns.

Per multiple sources, the Patriots are preparing for McDaniels to leave. He has interviewed with the Packers, and the Browns reportedly are interested.

At this point in time, the Packers appear to be the most likely team to offer McDaniels their head coaching position. The opportunity to coach Aaron Rodgers and take the Packers back to contention would be tough to pass up on.

Cleveland would be an intriguing destination as well. After not winning a single game last season, the Browns were able to work their way into playoff contention this year. Baker Mayfield and company are going to be tough to beat for quite a few years.

McDaniels has made it clear that he does want to be a head coach again. He did not have a ton of success his first time around in Denver, but there is no denying the fact that he has the potential to be a high-caliber head coach.

All of that being said, it sounds like the Patriots will be searching for a new offensive coordinator this offseason.
