With four picks in the first two rounds of the NFL Draft, the New England Patriots are starting to get a closer look at some of the players they could potentially target with those picks. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has identified two such prospects they’ve hosted recently for a private workout: the Oklahoma State quarterback-wide receiver combo of Mason Rudolph and James Washington.

The Patriots have been widely tipped to pick up a quarterback early in this year’s draft, with some even speculating that they might trade up to get one of the top-rated QBs. However, Rudolph is likely to still be on the board when the Pats are up with the 23rd and 32nd picks, so he could be an option for them there.

Rudolph had an impressive four-year career at Stillwater. He finished as the owner of more than 50 school records, including career passing yards, single-season total touchdowns and victories as a starting quarterback. He’s clearly not ready to be an NFL starter yet, but he may have a chance to develop into one.

As for Washington, he was Rudolph’s go-to receiver and is an outstanding big-play threat. Like Rudolph, Washington also set a new school record for the most career receiving yards. During his senior year, he led the nation in receiving yards with 1,549, and also averaged an impressive 20.93 yards per catch and had 13 touchdowns. He's currently being projected to go in the second round or later.

The Patriots could do with another deep threat receiver after trading away Brandin Cooks. However, they have just added Jordan Matthews to their receiving corps which also includes Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan, Malcolm Mitchell, Kenny Britt, and Phillip Dorsett.
