The New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams are competing in Super Bowl 53 this evening and things have not gotten off to a very entertaining start. At the end of the first quarter, the teams were still knotted up at 0-0. History seems to favor the Patriots with that kind of score.

According to a report from NFL Research on Twitter, the Patriots are 4-0 in the Super Bowl when the game is tied at the end of the first quarter.

New England came into Super Bowl 53 feeling like an underdog. They have embraced that mentality, even if they aren't necessarily viewed as that by most fans or media members.

Tom Brady is playing in his ninth career Super Bowl. He is one of the main members of the Patriots who have preached and embraced the underdog mindset.

At the time of this writing, the Patriots had tacked on a field goal in the second quarter to go up 3-0. Los Angeles has been unable to get their offense going. Once again, Todd Gurley has hardly played, which has brought concern and questions to the forefront within the Rams' fan base.

It will be interesting to see how the rest of the game goes, but right now this game isn't pretty. New England has always thrived on the “grind it out” kind of games and it appears that they are in for another dogfight this year.

Will history repeat itself and can New England move to 5-0 in Super Bowls that the game is tied in the first quarter? Only time will tell.
