It took him a while, but New England Patriots rookie quarterback Mac Jones has finally recorded his first (unofficial) passing touchdown in the NFL.

During the Patriots' preseason finale against the New York Giants, Jones put the finishing touches on a six play, 75-yard drive with a keen 17-yard passing touchdown to second-year wide receiver Isaiah Zuber.

Jones later helped anchor a second touchdown drive, which was capped off by a Rhamondre Stevenson rushing touchdown.

Patriots quarterback Cam Newton was much impressed with the drive that he simply did not give up in getting a high-five from the former Alabama star quarterback.

Jones is having arguably the best game of his preseason against the Giants as he currently boasts a passer rating over 100 coupled with the pair of touchdown drives in this game.

It sure remains to be seen on whether Jones has done enough to win the Patriots' starting quarterback duel over Newton. At the least, he has gained crucial experience over his appearances in preseason.

Still, Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels noted earlier in preseason that for the moment, Newton is the team's starting quarterback and that he has not counted out the possibility of having the two passers feature in the same game over the early portions of the season.

Whether it will be Jones or Newton under center for New England's Week 1 season opener against the Miami Dolphins, there will be plenty of expectations on the offense to rebound following last season's down year.
