The England Patriots have released a statement on Patrick Chung's arraignment next Wednesday on drug charges in New Hampshire. According to Mike Reiss of ESPN:

“We are aware of the reports regarding Patrick Chung. We will not be commenting while his judicial proceedings take place.”

A Belknap County grand jury indicted Chung on possession of cocaine on August 8th, according to The Laconia Daily Sun. According to the criminal complaint, the incident happened in Meredith, New Hampshire in late June, but the details surrounding the incident are still unclear.

Chung “did possess or have under his control a quantity of the controlled substance cocaine” on June 25 in Meredith, according to the indictment. When asked for a booking photo, Meredith Police Chief Kevin Morrow said Chung “was not arrested and there is no photo to provide.”

In New Hampshire, possession of cocaine is a class B felony and the punishment can be fines up to $2,000 and up to seven years in prison. Not only is this is a big legal issue for Chung, but he now can also be suspended by the NFL for violating the terms of the substance abuse policy.

Chung is still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery and has been wearing the red non-contact jersey during practice. Chung was a team captain in 2018 and this arrest could also put that in jeopardy.

Chung and the Patriots agreed to a contract extension this offseason and this was the last thing the team needed just a couple of weeks before the start of the regular season.
