The New England Patriots have announced that they've officially released tight end Dwayne Allen.

The Patriots posted the announcement on their official website, where an official statement was released about the terms in which the tight end departed the team.

“In two seasons with New England, Allen played in 29 games with 15 starts and finished with 13 receptions for 113 yards and one touchdown. He played in six postseason games with one start and did not accrue any statistics.”

Dwayne Allen is a long-time veteran of the NFL. Of the seven seasons he's been in the league, he's spent two with the New England Patriots. The 6-foot-3, 266-pounder was acquired by New England in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts back in March of 2017, along with a 2017 sixth-round draft pick, in exchange for a 2017 fourth-round draft selection. He originally entered the NFL as a third-round draft pick (64th overall) by Indianapolis in the 2012 NFL Draft out of Clemson.

Unfortunately, Allen is not the only player to get officially released from the team, as the Patriots also announced that they've released wide receiver Darren Andrews. Andrews, however, only played one season with the Patriots, signing with the team as a rookie free agent out of UCLA back in 2018, so it's unclear whether his future will be just as bright as Allen's.

We will, however, keep you apprised of all the details about where Darren Andrews and Dwayne Allen ultimately end up when, or if, they get picked up by another team. Allen reportedly is already generating interest from a few teams.
