The New England Patriots are in desperate need of some help in the passing game, and they are turning to a long-time rival to get it.

According to Field Yates of ESPN, the Patriots are going to sign former Denver Broncos and Houston Texans wide receiver Demaryius Thomas.

Thomas split the 2018 campaign between the Broncos and the Texans, with Denver trading him to Houston midway through the season. Overall, he played in 15 games and hauled in 59 receptions for 677 yards and five touchdowns. His season came to an end in Week 16 as a result of a torn Achilles, so it remains to be seen how well he recovers from the devastating injury.

The 31-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Georgia Tech, was originally selected by the Broncos in the first round (22nd pick overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft.

His career got off to a slow start, as he tallied 283 and 551 yards in his first two seasons, respectively, but once Peyton Manning arrived in Denver, Thomas took off, as he broke out by catching 94 passes for 1,434 yards and 10 scores in 2012 en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

The Montrose, Ga. native then went on to make three straight Pro Bowls, with his best season coming in 2014 when he snared 111 balls for 1,619 yards while reaching the end zone 11 times.

Overall, Thomas earned four Pro Bowl selections with the Broncos, last punching his ticket in 2016 when he finished with 90 catches for 1,083 yards and five touchdowns.

With the Patriots losing Rob Gronkowski to retirement and Cordarrelle Patterson to free agency, not to mention Josh Gordon to an indefinite suspension, Thomas seems like a solid low-risk, high-reward pickup.
