According to an official statement released by the franchise this week, the New England Patriots will allow up to 20 percent capacity at Gillette Stadium in 2020. However, this would only come into play if the state of Massachusetts — and the federal government — allows fans in attendance later this year.

Additionally, social distancing and face masks will be required by patrons at all times throughout the stadium.

“Pending state and local approval, should Gillette Stadium be allowed to have fans in the stands this season, it is expected to host about 20 percent of its total capacity,” reads the team's official statement. “Ticketed parties will be asked to maintain physical distancing of at least six feet from other parties, tickets will be arranged in blocks of 10 seats or less, and the first eight rows of stadium seats will not be used. Additionally, face coverings will be required at all times inside the stadium to keep all attendees safe.”

On the football field, the Patriots are currently gearing up to enter a new era with future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady now a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As a result, head coach Bill Belichick still managed to replace Brady with another former league MVP in longtime Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, who recently inked a one-year free-agent contract with New England.

With the AFC East division currently serving as one of the weaker groups in the league, Newton and the Patriots definitely have a shot at success in 2020 — with or without fans in attendance.
