The Baltimore Ravens had a logjam in their secondary, so the New England Patriots took advantage by sending a pair of late-round draft picks to the Ravens for rookie cornerback Shaun Wade, according to The Athletic's Jeff Zrebiec. It's a seventh-round pick in 2022 and a fifth-round pick in 2023.

Baltimore drafted Wade in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. The cornerback was a star at Ohio State, earning First-Team All-Big Ten honors in 2020. He was named the Tatum-Woodson Defensive Back of the Year and was a Consensus All-American.

Despite this, Wade had his struggles at Ravens training camp. With fellow young cornerbacks Chris Westry and Nigel Warrior outplaying Wade, and undrafted safety Ar'Darius Washington doing the same, Baltimore decided to shop Wade around so it could get something in return for him.

The Patriots pounced on this opportunity in hopes of getting the most out of Wade's immense talent. As NFL Network's Ian Rapoport notes, Wade is a “high-ceiling player” who could really help out New England if he's able to figure things out at the NFL level. While he wasn't great with the Ravens in camp, perhaps he breaks out playing for Bill Belichick.

The Patriots have turned plenty of late-round picks into gems over the years, and they're hoping to do the same with Shaun Wade.
