First, kicker Nick Folk was going to sign with the New England Patriots. Then, Bill Belichick refuted the report of doing so. Now, the Patriots will re-sign Folk, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Per Rapoport, Folk worked out with the Patriots on Friday and was healthy. He is expected to sign and play on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. The transaction will be official on Saturday.

Folk was the Patriots third kicker of the season — Stephen Gostkowski and Mike Nugent — before he had to miss Week 13's loss to the Houston Texans due to an appendectomy procedure. He was waived in favor of Kai Forbath. The expectation was that he would return.

Belichick would not confirm nor deny the reports of the Patriots signing Folk on Friday. The dialogue of his Friday press-conference, via the team's official website:

Q: How much did you have to weigh not having a kicker the last two days to work on the home field when navigating the process this week with that position?

A: “We’ll see how it goes. We’ll just have to see how it goes. Go with who we got or – I don’t know – see how it goes.”

Q: There’s a report out there that you guys are expected to re-sign Nick Folk. Is there any sort of an announcement on that?

A: “Nope.”

Folk is 7-for-9 on field-goal attempts with the Patriots, missing two in the back-to-back weeks leading up to his release. He did not miss an extra point.
