The New England Patriots are coming off a disappointing loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl. As if missing out on a chance to win back-to-back titles wasn't bad enough, news surfaced about perennial Pro Bowler Rob Gronkowski seriously considering retirement.

Apparently, Gronkowski has been thinking about retirement since training camp. There's been a rumor circulating that he may be considering going into acting with stars Sylvester Stallone and The Rock urging him to take that path. Gronkowski's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, recently made an interesting comment about his client's immediate future, via Pro Football Talk.

Appearing on Friday’s PFT Live, agent Drew Rosenhaus said there’s no timetable for a decision from Gronkowski as to whether he’ll play this year.

At this point, there's been no clear indication as to which way Gronkowski is leaning regarding his future in the NFL. There's no telling whether he retire or decide to return for at least one more season with the Patriots making the situation difficult for New England.

The Patriots have a decision to make with fellow tight end Martellus Bennett who would be due $2 million next season. Bennett is a good insurance policy for New England if Gronkowski decides to retire or even if he comes back as a complimentary player at the same position.

There's also a chance the Patriots could pursue another option in NFL free agency. Veteran tight end Jimmy Graham won't be returning to the Seattle Seahawks next season and might be the ideal fit in New England if Gronkowski decides to call it a career.

Needless to say, the future of Gronkowski in a Patriots uniform remains up in the air. One of Tom Brady's favorites targets could very well retire with the team looking for his replacement before the 2018 NFL season.
