The New England Patriots extended Julian Edelman through the 2021 season, and that is very good for the team and Tom Brady's play.

Pro Football Focus tweeted out a graphic that shows just how much better Brady is when Edelman is on the field with him.

The graphic is pretty self-explanatory, but the one area that sees the most significant jump is third down passer rating. Without Edelman, on the field, Brady's passer rating on third down is only 98.1. When Edelman is on the field on third down Brady's passer rating raises to 105.1.

Edelman has been with the Patriots the last ten seasons after being selected in the seventh round out of Kent State and has been one of Brady's favorite targets. In February against the Los Angeles Rams Edelman hauled in 10 catches for 141 yards and was vital in the Patriots winning another Super Bowl.

Edelman is 33 years old, and much like Brady is getting up there in age, but both guys are going to be essential for the team's success going forward.

If Edelman stays healthy and is on the field, that is going to help improve Brady's play, which might also keep them on the field together longer.

With Rob Gronkowski not on the team anymore it's going to be even more crucial that Edelman continues to have success.

With Gronkowski not drawing double teams, it could also mean that Edelman is drawing more attention, but Brady is still going to be getting him the ball plenty.
